Because it is a mixture, its activity is attributed to the peptide fraction as a whole rather than one active compound.
This is where honesty matters: Cerebrolysin is far better studied than a typical research peptide — it has real randomized controlled trials and Cochrane systematic reviews — but the independent verdict is mixed, ranging from no convincing benefit (with a possible harm signal) in stroke to suggestive-but-not-definitive in dementia, and Cochrane rated overall evidence quality as low due to small samples and bias. Some meta-analyses report benefit (e.g. cognitive improvement in dementia at four weeks; reduced mortality/disability in severely affected stroke patients), but the highest-quality reviews counsel caution.
